Man, 40, Jailed For Robbery

Accra circuit court has sentenced a 40-year-old businessman to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

The convict, Kenneth Dzubey aka I Surrender, is said to have robbed the complainant (name withheld) of her Techno H6 mobile phone worth GH¢400 and an unspecified amount of money.

Although the convict had denied the charge at the initial stages of the trial, the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, eventually found him guilty.

The court accordingly handed him the jail term to serve as a deterrent to others.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector K. Adu said the complainant is a 27-year-old businesswomen residing at Adenta Animal Research Institute while the convict is also a businessman residing at Madina New Road, all in Accra.

He said on January 31 last year, at about 11:30 pm, the complainant bordered a commercial bus from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta New Legon and alighted at Konkonsa junction.

Chief Inspector Adu said on her way home, she saw Kenneth coming from behind her and sensed danger and so she decided to double her steps.

The prosecutor stated that in no time the convict caught up with the victim and asked where she was going.

The victim told Kenneth that she was going home and the convict offered to escort her home, which she obliged. On their way, the Kenneth pulled a knife at her, pushed her into the nearby bush and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The police officer said Kenneth, after the act, collected the victim’s phone and the unspecified amount of money and bolted.

He was later arrested at the Madina Zongo junction with a big bag containing a knife, screw driver, iron rod and a torch light.
