Cecilia Awuni, a final year student on Wednesday was prevented from taking a fourth paper in an ongoing internal exams after she was found to be pregnant. A drama unfolded in the school and subsequently drew public anger after media reportage.

Authorities of the school mounted strong defense saying the decision was based on a Ghana Education Service regulations but later res

According to her the pressure mounted on her to walk back on the decision to suspend the student for going contrary to the college rules has set a reprehensible precedence that would ultimately increase indiscipline in the school.

“I think something is going wrong and may be very soon there will be total breakdown of law in the schools” she said and when asked to elaborate she continued: “what it means is that if have some regulations and yet…It means all other things in this book is useless because that student have this book, so we have to set the book aside and allow every student to do what they want. It says when you become pregnant you defer the course, and how to do that when your are writing exams”? She demanded before letting loose the handbook to bang on her desk.

The Principal is now calling on higher authorities to issue a new clear cut regulations for midwifery training schools since the one in use have been floured and rendered useless.
