Jehovah's Witnesses invite all to "Keep on the Watch!"

Jehovah's Witnesses in Ghana are launching a vigorous campaign to invite all to hear interesting discussions about the Bible's description of what many people refer to as the end of the world. The Witnesses are convinced that each of their neighbours will be intrigued and even encouraged by what will be presented at the 2009 four-day "Keep on the Watch!" International Convention to be held at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra. A statement signed by Mr Dan Obimpeh, News Service Coordinator for the Convention, said the programme will be presented simultaneously at the Accra Assembly Hall at Coastal Estates on the Spintex Road in Accra and also at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and the Esipon Stadium in Sekondi. It said from this weekend and continuing for the next three weeks, Jehovah's Witnesses would extend a personal invitation to their neighbours and the public especially from the Accra-Tema metropolitan area to attend the four-day event in Accra, which is slated to take place from December 3-6. "The theme is based on several passages of the Bible, including Matthew 24:42 and Mark 13:37, where Jesus Christ instructed his followers to "keep on the watch," the statement said, adding that various speakers on the programme would explain the import of Jesus' words for modern Bible readers. The statement said the Witnesses' campaign would include the distribution of an attractive illustrated invitation similar to the one they distributed in 2007 for their successful "Follow the Christ" convention. It said some 55,000 delegates were expected to attend the conventions out of which 2,000 would be foreign delegates from Europe and Africa. "Witnesses look forward to welcoming many non-Witnesses to the convention and believe that all who attend will benefit from the practical and timely information presented," the statement said. It said Ghana was one of the 16 countries in the world selected to host the convention this year and added that throughout the country, there would be 37 other conventions in 23 towns. "Jehovah's Witnesses are urging people everywhere to "Keep on the Watch" spiritually and note the Biblical significance of our times. They feel that attendance at their 2009 conventions will be a significant help for people to achieve that goal," the statement said. Worldwide, there are over 7.1 million Witnesses in more than 103,000 congregations. In Ghana, there are over 90,234 Witnesses organized in some 1,339 congregations.
