Rainstorm Disaster Hits Mion District

About 150 houses including; two schools in seven communities in the Mion District of the Northern Region have been ripped-up whiles parts of the buildings collapsed following a rainstorm disaster that hit the district on Wednesday evening.

Hundreds of residents of the affected communities including Laamado, Tidando, Nalangni, Nadundo, Jagrido, Binalokdo and Sobitido have been rendered homeless and are putting up with friends and relatives, who were not affected.

The rainstorm disaster also destroyed quantities of foodstuffs and led to the death of a number of animals belonging to the residents.

Mr Mohammed Abul-Aziz, Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency, who toured the affected communities to assess the extent of damage, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other benevolent organisations to support the affected residents.

Mr Kwame Ponipir, Mion District Director of NADMO said he was preparing a report about the disaster to be sent to the regional office of NADMO for relief items to be mobilised for the affected residents.

Mr Dilinya Timothy, Assembly Member for the Nadundo Electoral Area appealed to the government to urgently rehabilitate the affected schools to ensure smooth academic exercise.
