An Accra High Court (Criminal Division) for the second time yesterday could not begin the hearing of the trial of the two persons accused of murdering Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region.
This was because Sefakor Batsa, a senior state attorney, said there was a new development in the case.
Although the state attorney did not tell the court what new development had emerged, she pleaded with the court for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to address those developments.
Muniru Kassim, lawyer for the accused persons -Daniel Asiedu, 19 aka Sexy Don Don, phone dealer and Vincent Bosso aka Junior Agogo, phone repairer – said the defence was ready for the trial.
He said the defence had come to court for the business of the day which was the empanelling of the jury for the hearing to start.
Kassim said if the prosecution said it was not ready, the defence would oblige them.
The court, presided over by Justice Lawrence L. Mensah, subsequently adjourned the case until May 30.
Daniel and Vincent are before the court following the committal by the district court, presided over by Stephen Owusu, for the two to be tried by the high court.
The court committed the two for trial at the high court because the state had established a prima facie case against them.
Sexy Don Don has been slapped with the charge of murder while Agogo faces conspiracy to rob.
In the case of Agogo, the prosecution held that he at about 1:00 am on February 9, 2016 at Shiashie, East Legon in Accra, conspired with Sexy Don Don to commit murder.
Sexy Don Don, according to the prosecution, on the same day and time intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of the MP.
According to the prosecution’s Bill of Indictment, Agogo did not enter the house of the MP because of a misunderstanding with Sexy Don Don on which house to rob.
