Galamsey Fight: Marine Police To Protect Water Bodies

The Minister for lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu says government is increasing its commitment in the fight against galamsey by employing the services of the Marine police unit of the Ghana Police Service.

This is to ensure that the illegal miners don’t return to the river bodies to continue with the illegal mining.

John Amewu speaking in an interview on OKAY FM, Saturday, emphasized on the need to protect the water bodies in the country.

“We are going to deploy the marine police at certain stage of this campaign to make sure that they ply on these rivers to locate where these guys are. It is important we understand that as a country we are not going to allow anyone to mine inside or on our rivers; that one is unacceptable” he opined.
