Daavi Ama.Backs Esther Ofori for NPP First Vice

The incumbent National Treasurer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ms. Gifty Asantewaa Ayeh, popularly known as Daavi Ama, has declared her intention not to seek re-election for the position she has held for the past eight years. On the impending elections for the NPPs National Executive Officers, she said she is backing the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Trade Fair Company, Ms Esther Ofori for the position of National First Vice Chairperson. The incumbent National Treasurer noted that Ms. Esther Ofori has good human relations, together with her impressive work at the grassroots level. According to her, Ms. Esther Ofori also has good communication skills, she is tolerant and her good listening skills can help the party to recapture power from the NDC in 2012. Ms. Gifty Asantewaa Ayeh said she would like to serve in any of the partys advisory boards to bring on board her vast experience in the decision making process of the party. I believe having served the NPP at the position of National Treasurer, and discharged my duties efficiently, it is now time to offer the party advice so as to help the NPP return to power in the 2012 general elections, she added. Ms. Ayeh said these in an exclusive interview with the Daily Dispatch in Accra. She said being a member of any of the advisory boards of the party would offer her another opportunity to contribute her quota to the development of the main opposition party in the country. For the position of National Treasurer, she has decided to support Dr. Daniel Annor, the Eastern Regional Treasurer, now vying for the position of National Treasurer. According to her, the position of National treasurer of the NPP requires someone who has made immense contribution to the party at the constituency or regional levels. She said the position also requires the services of someone who is trustworthy at all levels. A national treasurer of the party has to be someone who has a strong sense of credibility and at the same time can use available resources of the party for the right purpose. Ms. Asantewaa Ayeh is convinced that Dr. Daniel Annor, the incumbent Eastern Regional Treasurer of the party stands tall among all those jostling for the position. She said Dr. Daniel Annor has over the years contributed effectively to the development of the party in the Eastern Region and with the experiences he had, it would be prudent for him to bring it on board at the national level. Commenting on her choice of the party chairman, she emphasized that the four names making the rounds in the media vying for the position of the National Chairman are all capable of handling the affairs of the party for victory come 2012. Ms. Ayeh added that experience and contribution of the said individuals to the party will determine the winner of the chairmanship slot. For the position of the General Secretary of the party, she said the incumbent general secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow is best positioned to continue with the good work he is doing for the party. Highlighting some of the qualities of the General Secretary, she stressed that for some years that she has worked with Nana Ohene Ntow, he had demonstrated a high sense of professionalism in the discharge of duties and fully committed to the party. For the position of National Womens Organiser, she said Ms. Otiko Afisah Djaba is best suited for the position due to her energetic and diligent traits. Ms. Ayeh said it would be suicidal if majority of the incumbent executives lost their positions hence the need to blend majority of them with the new ones to speed up work due to the experiences the incumbent executives will offer. She called on delegates to do enough background check on all aspirants and vote with their consciousness. She also reminded members of the party to refrain from imposing some aspirants on delegates.
