Addo Suspended For Stars Match

Stalwart defender Daniel Addo may have been delighted by the invitation extended to him by Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac for this weekends encounter against Mali in Kumasi, but his dream of notching his first senior international cap hit a snag as he has to serve suspension for the red card he attracted at the FIFA under 20 world cup in Egypt last month. Daniel Addo was shown the red card 37 minutes into the first half in the epic final against Brazil which Ghana won with penalties after extra time. By FIFA's regulations, any suspension in any FIFA organised competition is carried on to other competitions by FIFA of which the world cup is no exception. The King Faisal player was one of the players who caught the attention of Black Stars coach during the World Youth Championship in Egypt. Meanwhile, diminutive midfield player of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Jordan Opoku has joined the team as the buildup for Sunday's game continue. Information gathered indicates that he might not play after all on sunday but he is there for assessment by the coach for the future. It will be recalled that Opoku was part of the team that won gold in the maiden edition of the CHAN tournament hosted in Cote dIvoire early this year. The news has come as a shock as it is unexpected with Jordan Opoku joining the team only this afternoon. The Black Stars have had training sessions in Accra since Tuesday and just touched down in Kumasi on thursday morning to fine tune themselves ahead of the tricky duel which is only good for the records. Both Ghana and Mali have qualified for Angola 2010 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) with the Black Stars making it as group winners thus picking the only ticket of the group to the World cup in South Africa next year. Benin have also qualified for the Nations Cup as the outcome of their match against Sudan will have no effect on their qualification. Meanwhile, Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has expressed satisfaction with the turn of events so far and has held his first training session with the team in Kumasi this afternoon.
