A 10-year-old pupil of a Tema based private school, Delhi Public School (DPS) International Ghana, Raj Mukesh Thakwani has been adjudged the Gold award winner of the national 11th annual Toyota Dream Car Art Competition.
His award follows an art and design work he presented of his dream ‘Transformer Car’ in the 8-11 age category of the contest held in Ghana.
Five other pupils of the school also emerged Silver winners in the same contest. The five names are Adrijaa Pal, Mantram Saini, Rohiy Kailash Godhwani, Akshaga Zakshika Janikar and Aryan Aman Goel.
However, two winners of the school, Adrijaa Pal (10), and Mantram Saini (8) will join the Gold winner to represent Ghana in the global Toyota Dream Car Art Competition in Japan.
Raj Mukesh Thakwani and Adrijaa Pal took home a laptop and Ipad respectively as their prizes for their outstanding art and design works. The three participating children are optimistic of emerging Gold winners in the global competition.
A total of 982 entries were received nationwide from schools but only 90 participants qualified for the national contest out of which pupils of DPS International Ghana emerged winners with three of them selected for the international competition in Japan.
Celebrating its 11th anniversary, the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest challenges kids nationwide to draw or paint their "dream car," a next generation vehicle that can in some way help humankind, improve transportation techniques or benefit the planet.
Without a doubt, the contest is the biggest of its kind in Ghana.
Split into three categories, 7 years and below, 8-11 years old and 12-15 years old, each age group is awarded one gold, two silver, three bronze and four "best finalists" prizes, thus allowing ten children in each category to be recognized for their work.
A Senior Instructor of the Arts and Design Department of DPS International Ghana, Alex Amoabeng Twum was full of praise for the kids for using the contest to exhibit their talents.
“Let me congratulate Raj Thakwani and all the young participants for their unique creative ideas. We are proud to have a winner selected from Ghana and grateful to have contributed towards this initiative,” he stressed in a joyful mood.
According to him, DSP International Ghana allows every student to showcase hidden talents and potentials while developing a positive work ethic with problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Nancy Goel, an Art and Design coach of the kids who participated in the competition congratulated the children for taking a step of faith by being part of the competition
“Congratulations to Raj Mukesh Thakwani and all of the students who participated in this year’s competition. I am truly inspired by the gifted young artists in our school,” she said.
She pointed out that a lot of research was conducted into the work to enable the participants come out with flying colours.
The coach explained that the participants’ design was to attract the underprivileged in society as well as educate and fight pollution.
