Denkyira DCE Should Be Sacked Immediately - Atik Mohammed

Atik Mohammed, General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Upper West Denkyira, Daniel Appianing, with immediate effect.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Atik Mohammed wondered why there has not been any sanction meted out to the DCE yet for making disparaging remarks about the mob lynching of the late Military Captain Maxwell Mahama.

According to him, he expected the President to act swiftly and dismiss the DCE without a blink of an eye.

The DCE, speaking in an interview with Adom FM, blamed the incident on what he believes is the intrusion of Military personnel in the area.

He noted that the Military detachment stationed at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region where the murder of the late Captain took place were safeguarding some illegal miners in the area.

To him, the deceased was the leader of the Military troop that was protecting the illegal miners.

The DCE's comments seem to have added salt to injury with seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako, calling for his immediate dismissal.

The PNC General Secretary, expressing consent to Mr. Baako's request, stated that the DCE is "not helping the course of this government. He’s not helping the course of justice…He serves as the pleasure of the President and if you’re dragging the name of this government in the mud, then the President will say let me take my time. Look, people have been fired for far less crimes. Somebody just nursed an intention…” and the mere fact that the person even harbored such thoughts was sacked with immediate effect."

Atik Mohammed further disclosed the circumstances that led to the murder of the late Captain smacks of conspiracy by some people in the community who decided to orchestrate his death.

He strongly believed the murder was premeditated by the perpetrators.

“I think the action was premeditated. It was intentional. They sat down to think about and they exhibited it perfectly. Because when you listen to the sequence of the events, Chairman, it couldn’t have been a coincidence. It couldn’t have been an accident…The initial reports that came out were to the effect that he was killed on the basis of mistaken identity. I don’t think so. Because when you look at the narrations and the events we’re hearing, I’ve come to the conclusion that the murder was premeditated”.

He also wondered why the Police personnel stationed at the area failed to intervene when the deceased was being attacked by the mob.

Atik however advised that the murder of the Military officer should lead to the end of illegal mining (galamsey) and "mobsterism" - to wit mob attacks - in the country.
