With thousands of candidates across the country preparing to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on Monday June 5, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has issued a stern warning to all headmasters and directors of education not to prevent any pregnant candidate from sitting for the examination.
The Member of Parliament, in an interview with Accra FM’s parliamentary reporter Richard Appiah Sarpong, indicated that any attempt by headmasters to disallow a student from writing the BECE will be a strong breach of the constitution.
He indicated further that he would not sit unconcerned for such violations to happen in his constituency.
He called his fellow legislators to monitor the BECE to ensure no headmaster or teacher prevents pregnant students from writing their final basic school examination.
The Minister of State in charge Public Procurement and MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, also advised all candidates to refrain from importing foreign materials into the examination hall.
The Deputy Majority Leader issued this advice as she distributed a set of mathematical instruments to 4,000 pupils in 160 public and private schools who will be writing this year's BECE within her catchment area.
