The Mfantseman Municipal Education Directorate, in the Central Region, has announced its readiness towards this year's Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) scheduled from Monday, 5th June to Friday, June 9, 2017.

According to the directorate, the Municipality is presenting 3,154 candidates, comprising 1,596 males and 1,558 females from both public and private schools.

This was made known by the Directorate's Examination Coordinator, Madam Gladys Edwina Thompson Donkor.

She explained that the directorate has put in place measures as far as this year's examination is concerned and further noted that arrangements which need to be done at all the seven examination centres in the municipality have been made.

The centers are the Methodist Senior High School in Saltpond, two at the Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School at Anomabo, two centres at Mankessim Senior High Technical School (Manstech)in Mankessim and one at Abeadze State College in Abeadze Dominase.

Mrs Donkor added that seven assigned supervisors and 13 deputies have been trained as well as 109 invigilators to supervise the exams.

She also commended the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly and the Saltpond Methodist Senior High School for allocating buses to the directorate to convey their materials.

She mentioned that all the candidates in all the schools in the Municipality, including those "at the remote areas have been briefed and educated" regarding the rules and regulations governing the exams.

She called on the "candidates are this time required to be seated at the exams hall 30minutes before time, and that any candidate who reports to the Hall late would be eschewed from writing that particular paper".

She therefore explained the directorate has also decided to deploy health workers to some of the centers to provide first aid to any candidate who might be in need.

Madam Edwina Gladys Thompson Donkor encouraged the candidates in the municipality to go out there and write the exams with no fears and advised them to avoid any form of examination malpractices.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kenneth Kelly Essuman also pledged his outfit's readiness to provide buses to convey candidates at remote areas to the examination centers.

This is aimed at reducing the transportation and accommodation costs parents have to bear.

"We don't want the candidates to be camped this time round, as they have been doing in the past which the parents had to provide them with foodstuffs and money. A candidate going to write an exams carrying so many luggage and parents asked to pay for the accommodation bills which sometimes become difficult for some of them to pay", he explained.
