Let Discipline Go Beyond Ramadan Period - Minority Leader

Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader in Parliament, on Friday said the enhanced discipline associated with the holy month of Ramadan must go beyond the period and be a non-stop activity among all Islamic faithful.

As he led the Minority Caucus to make a courtesy call on, and donation to the National Chief Imam, Shiekh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, at his Palace at Fadama in Accra, Alhaji Iddrisu emphasised that holiness, integrity and discipline were requirements from Allah and need to be practiced at all times.

The donation, he said, was the Minority’s widow’s mite to the Chief Imam in fulfillment of the Zakat and Sadaqah requirement of the Holy Koran, to ensure items were available for distribution to the poor during the 30-day fast.

Alhaji Iddrisu, who later identified himself as belonging to the Islamic Al Sunni faith, prayed Allah to give the Chief Imam longer life, peace, and strength as well as a secured and peaceful Ghana.

He advised Muslims to keep a high sense of integrity during the fast.

Sheikh Sharabutu expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and said charity, as a virtue, must permeate all sectors of the society.

He said it was proper that people who showed charity were recognised and Allah has a way of rewarding them compassion and goodness especially during the month of Ramadan.

The Minority NDC Caucus also presented 50 bags of rice, 25 bags of sugar, 15 cartons of milk and five cartons of Lipton tea bags to the Al Sunna Muslim Community at Abeka.

The items were received by Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam, the National Chief Imam of the Al Sunna Muslim faith, who also presented copies of English translation of the Koran to the lawmakers.

He urged the MPs to read the Koran on their own and make decisions guided by the word and will of Allah, declaring that “may the Zongos be like London.”

Millions of Muslims are now observing Ramadan, a holy month of fasting and religious devotion.

Ramadan falls in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan starts in May and marks the start of a month of fasting and religious devotion.

This year’s Ramadan started on May 27 and will end on June 24 after which Muslims would celebrate Eid al-Fitr on June 25.
