Professor Kwesi Yankah, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, has called on graduands to serve Ghana and humanity at large with integrity and with the fear of God.

He noted that faith-based training and discipline had been broadly considered as a way of changing the value system of societies; whereas, it also considered it as a belief system and character dictated by the word of God.

Professor Yankah said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the Greenhills School of Health Sciences’ second graduation ceremony in Accra.

The event was on the theme: “Championing Rehabilitation Training and Practice- Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy”.

The ceremony, witnessed the graduation of 86 students, out of which 49 were Physiotherapy Assistants, 21 from the Department of Health Care, 10 Medical Laboratory Assistants, and seven students from the Department of Occupation Therapy.

Prof. Yankah said graduands should not only be concerned about their academic attainment, but also their moral character; adding that “there are certain virtues that are not learnt in the classroom”.

He further urged them to be disciplined, truthful, and faithful and as well work with religious principles.

In his address, Reverend Dr Charles Antwi-Boasiako, Founder of Greenhills School of Health Sciences, noted that as graduands about to enter the world of work, they should at all times remember to uphold the School’s core values.

He said the graduands had lived under policies and regulations that would reflect their commitment to God and His Word in Jesus Christ our Lord.

“They have taken advantage of the School’s Ministerial Training Institute, Beginners in Christ Classes, Discipleship Classes, Midweek and Sunday Services, Annual School Retreats as well as other programmes to learn and grow in Christ”, he added.

He said the school was committed to contributing to the country’s health needs especially in the area of rehabilitation and beyond, through its health outreaches and the training of spirit filled medical science professionals who are ready to serve the nation.

Rev Dr Antwi-Boasiako said Greenhill’s corporate social responsibility strategy for 2017, was to establish the Greenhill Foundation with the sole mandate of reaching out to the health needs of disadvantaged communities, and awarding deserving students with full scholarships to study any programme offered in the school.

Mrs Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, Deputy Minister of Health, also noted that the health system in any country was critical to its national development.

She said the government would ensure that the health of all Ghanaians was guaranteed.

She said that would be guaranteed through an established health sector with sustainable ability to deliver affordable and accessible health care for all.

She added that the vision could only be realised by increasing the number of human resources in the health sector through training and education; as education was the engine that established the economic development of every country.

She tasked the Greenhill School of Health Sciences to position itself as a centre of excellence to help the Ministry in addressing some of the challenges faced by the sector.
