Rockets Release GB's Mensah-Bonsu

Great Britain international Pops Mensah-Bonsu has been released by the Houston Rockets after less than three weeks of the NBA season. The 26-year-old Londoner signed as a free agent in September after earning the last roster spot on the Rockets. After shining for the Toronto Raptors last season, he has averaged just 1.3 points and 1.0 rebound in four games. "Pops did a great job while he was here with us at the Rockets," said general manager Daryl Morey. "This move is only being done to give us some roster flexibility in case of an injury or a potential call up from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. "With the way Coach Adelman currently has the rotation set up, this will also allow Pops an opportunity to explore options for more playing time." Great Britain coach Chris Finch coaches the Vipers, the Rockets' Development League affiliate, after joining the organisation in the summer. Mensah-Bonsu, born in north London, was also part of the Great Britain team that qualified for the Eurobasket 2009. During qualification he averaged 12.2 points, 10 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
