Police arrests impostor

A 26-year-old electrician has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for posing as a policeman and thereby, arresting and extorting monies from drivers in Kumasi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick Timbillah told the media in Kumasi that Yaw Amoah was arrested on Saturday morning in police uniform. He said the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Police had placed surveillance on the suspect who had been carrying himself as an officer of the unit for days. DCOP Timbillah noted that during one of his operations, he was arrested at Kejetia-Morocco, near the Kejetia branch of the Barclays Bank. A search on him revealed wrapped leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 15 Ghana cedis. The Regional Commander said Amoah claim he got the uniform from a friend who is a policeman. He said the suspect would be interrogated and arraigned.
