The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has ordered traders and hawkers off the pavements at Kejetia.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, Mr. Godwin Okumah Nyame asked that they relocate to the Kumasi Zoo main gate.
This has become necessary to pave way for work to commence on the construction of the road linking Pampaso to the Kejetia Traffic Light - a key component of the US$298 million Kejetia/Central Market Redevelopment Project.
The statement expressed concern about the failure of the traders to comply with an earlier directive.
The understanding between the KMA and the leadership of the petty traders association and the contractors, Messrs Contracta Engenharia Limited was that those selling on pavements at the Children’s Hospital, Pampaso and Kejetia Traffic Light were to have left those areas latest by June 10, this year.
The statement noted that some of them had chosen to be recalcitrant -blatantly refused to make way and doing brisk business at unauthorized areas, a development which could unduly delay the project.
It warned that such people were not going to be allowed to have their way and would be ejected.
