NPP Ketu South In Turmoil

The Ketu South constituency election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was characterized by confusion and conflicts. The trouble started when some party big wigs in the area questioned the legibility of some members to call for the holding of the elections. According to them, Mr Linus Koffies assumption of the position of election committee chairman and organisation of an election was a case of conflict of interest which amounts to injustice to the rest of the aspirants. Mr. C.C. Glakpe, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the party in the area, questioned the suitability of Mr Koffie, saying that as an aspiring constituency chairman it was wrong for Mr Koffie to assume the position of an election committee chairman and arrange for elections in the constituency. Mr Glakpe spoke to the Daily Graphic in reaction to a letter purported to have come from Nana Ohene Ntow, the General Secretary of the NPP, and forwarded to all aspiring candidates and polling station executives, directing the constituency elections to be held between Monday, November 2 and Sunday, November 15. He also challenged the aspiring chairman for not following the due process of the partys election committee and called on members to disregard any election activity until further notice. In a letter dated November, 10, 2009, Mr Glakpe called on party members to boycott all directives given by Mr Koffie to hold constituency elections since the laid down rules and conventions of the party were not adhered to. All members of the NPP of the Ketu South Constituency should disregard any purported election activity planned by the so-called election committee headed by Mr Linus Koffie, the letter said.
