TEK Credit Union inaugurates hostel/office complex

TEK Cooperative Credit Union of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Monday inaugurated a new four-storey hostel and refurbished office complex at total cost of at GH�1,752,000 on the university campus. The 60-bed capacity hostel, has a standby generator, water reservoir and facilities for DSTV cable network, general study room, internet caf�, a supermarket and a boutique. The rehabilitated office complex, consists of a banking hall, conference room and offices for the Manager and President of the Union. Inaugurating the projects, Professor Kwaku Kwafo Adarkwa, the Vice Chancellor said they had given the University a facelift adding "it has really changed the aesthetic quality and outlook of the area". He noted that over the years, TEK had helped many of its members with loans and hire-purchase facilities among others things. The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the contributions by other organisations and individuals including religious groups through partnerships with the University. Some he said had provided decent accommodation for the growing student population. He said the hostel, though a form of profit-making venture for the Union, had been built to meet the standard required by the University to ensure a congenial environment for teaching and learning. Mr Emmanuel Oduro Darko, General Manager of the Ghana Cooperative Credit Union (CUA), said the facilities were the union's contribution towards the progress of society. He assured that the Board of Directors of CUA would continue to improve on its efficiency and provide quality services to members while at the same time focussed on the long-term sustainability of the organisation. Mr Ebenezer Asamoah Nyarkoh, President of TEK Credit Union thanked CUA's Board and many others who help in the project for their cooperation to successfully complete the projects. Mr Kingsley Adu, Finance Officer of the University, who chaired the function, said the facilities should be properly maintained to make them last long.
