Drama In Parliament

The Minority in Parliament has dubbed the 2010 Budget which was presented to Parliament today by the Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor as a Go Slow Budget, "Team B Budget" or "Sakawa Part 2 Budget". Immediately after the presentation of the budget, the Minority members displayed papers with the inscriptions Sakawa Part 2, Go Slow Budget and "Team B" Budget. This was followed by counter inscriptions like Growth and Sustainability budget by the Majority members. The Majority Side completed the display of their inscriptions with a twi chorus (abamu Ewie! Abamu Ewie) meaning it is fulfilled. The NPP Minority side then countered the Majoritys chorus with the twi song Yanka Ankyere Mo See Omo Beku Yen meaning didnt we warn you that they will Kill us? Later in an interview with Peace FM, the former deputy minister of Finance and MP for Wenchi, Prof George Gyan Baffour said "the budget lacks adequate policies and measures that could bring improvement in the lives of the people." However, the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament and NDC MP for Ketu north, Hon. James Avedzi, described the budget as "a comprehensive budget with good policies to ensure growth in all sectors of the economy."
