Olympics pip Liberty

Accra Great Olympics secured a hard earned victory over city rivals Liberty Professionals in the sixth week League game of the Glo Premier League on Wednesday at the El-Wak Stadium, Accra. The Wonder Club got the lone goal victory in the 80th minute through skipper Emmanuel Lartey, who capitalized on a goal mouth melee to slot in the ball which ensured that they went home with the maximum three points at stake. Olympics prior to the goal had dominated proceedings from the first quarter of the game as they created several chances that could have given them a more comfortable victory but failed to capitalise on their chances. The numerous scoring opportunities were however wasted with James Abban who tormented the Liberty defence on several occasions, being the worse culprit, whilst the goal post also denied them two goals. With midfielder Malik Akowiah taking control of the game from the centre ably supported by nimble footed Bilal Mohammed, Olympics was the better side on the day as the Liberty lads failed to create the rhythm that saw them beat Asante Kotoko 3-1 in their fifth week league match at the Ohene Djan stadium. Liberty on the other hand put in a last minute effort to redeem their image but were unable to break through the Olympics defence leaving the lone goal score line in favour of Olympics with referee P. K. Kyeremanteng bringing proceedings to an end after three minutes of added time.
