Council Of State Should Arbitrate In EC Feud - NDC Communicator

NDC Communicator, Chief Biney has called on the Council of State to intervene in the seeming turf war between EC Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two Deputies.

Staff of the Electoral Commission (EC) has accused their Boss, Charlotte Osei of engaging in devious acts that bring the Commission’s image into disrepute.

The Staff has petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo to activate an impeachment process against the EC Chairperson.

They want Mrs. Charlotte Osei for various allegations ranging from signing contracts without the knowledge nor agreement of the Commission to receiving a V8 Land Cruiser from Ex-President John Mahama while assuming office among others.

But responding to the 27 allegations against her further accused her Deputies of masterminding the protest against her.

She accused the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services Mrs. Georgina Amankwaa of being incompetent.

According to her, Mrs. Amankwaa had been signing contracts “without the knowledge and authorisation of the chairperson between July and September 2015.”

“Payments were also made on these contracts in excess of her approval limits and again, without the knowledge and authorisation of the chairperson. This is illegal, criminal and a breach of the policies of the commission and the laws of Ghana," she added.

While some people are calling for a complete overhaul of the 7-member Commissioners at the EC, Chief Biney believes an arbitration process could help calm down tempers and further resolve the issue.

He's calling for an amicable settlement and so believes the Council of State should take up the challenge.

He was of a strong view that the Council of State will deal with the issue in a non-partisan manner.
