Proprietor calls for national efforts

The Proprietor of Dumas International Junior High School, Mr Machani Moroco has urged parents, school management committees and other stakeholders to champion girl-child education in order to accelerate the growth and development of the country. He said some parents and guardians, especially those in the rural areas, refuse to invest in the education of the girl-child to the detriment of the nation. Speaking to journalists at Kasoa on Thursday after a day's sensitisation workshop on Girl- child, Mr Moroco asked government to empower and resource girl-child district co-ordinators to enable them to reach out to the communities to educate parents on the need to send their girl-child to school. He called on the government to give adequate budgetary allocation to the Girl Child Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, to enable the personnel to work effectively to promote girl-child education. Mr Moroco said, this year girls who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination put up excellent performance and urged school management committees and parent- teacher associations to push the agenda of girls education. He appealed to the government to create land banks to boost agriculture production, adding that the nation must be able to feed itself and discourage the importation of food especially rice.
