The Cultural Initiative Support Programme (CISP) has provided an entrepreneurial skills training for some selected women at Busa in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The project was funded by the European Development Fund in partnership with Ghana Government and was aimed at improving and developing Arts and Culture in Ghana.
It would cover areas such as Performing Arts, Creative Arts and Language Development.
Mrs Ramatu Bukkari Latuo, who was the resource person, urged the women to team up and mobilise funds to enable them to sustain the project.
She said apart from the problem of inadequate funding, the ignorance and lack of cooperation on the part of some men were some of the challenges that confronted women and stressed the need for more public sensitization.
Madam Jamila Mumuni, the group leader called on the Wa Municipal Assembly to procure a shea butter processing plant in Busa to enable them produce in large quantities for both domestic and commercial purposes.
She said they were now equipped with the skills but stressed that it would all be useless if they were not given the necessary support to carry out their activities.
Mr Duogu Yakubu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive, said the project had come at a time when the whole world and Ghana in particular was projecting the women's roles.
He said government was committed to empowering women to become self dependent and urged husbands to also give their total support by encouraging their wives to undertake such ventures.
He, therefore, commended the sponsors and the resource person and expressed his hope that they would continue to support rural women not only in Busa but Upper West in general.
In all, 35 women and a man went through the training in batik, tie and die and soap making.
