Ushers critical to church growth- Rev. Lodo

The Rev Sampson Lodo, a pastor of Amanfro Global Evangelical Church (GEC), on Sunday said the role of ushers was critical to the growth of the church. "How we receive visitors especially those who come to the church the first time and intends finding solace in the house of God is critical to their retention in the church," he said. Rev. Lodo said this when he addressed the end of year meeting of the Accra Presbytery Ushers Union of the GEC. The meeting brought all ushers from the various congregations across the Accra metropolis to deliberate on their performance and to find new ways to improving ushering in the church. Rev. Lodo said ushering was a calling and those who wanted to venture into it must weigh themselves very well before they stepped into it. "The church must clothe the ushers well and give them the necessary assistance for the success of their work," he said adding that those among them who were not employed must be assisted. Unless this was done, he said, they might not perform well to the detriment of the growth of the church. Mrs. Aseye Afeti, Presbytery Resource Person of the ushers, said ushers must be replete with patience, humility, confidence. "They must be firm, smile at all times and be friendly to all those they are dealing with," she said. She said an usher must be ready to serve not for gains or punishment but rendering services for its own sake. A quiz competition organized on the role of the usher in the church had Mamprobi Redemption Chapel congregation taking the first position while Tema Commuinty 2 came second and Nungua congregation third.
