Unemployed remanded for stealing plantain

An Akyem Oda Magistrate's Court has remanded Anthonio Owusu, unemployed, in Police Custody for stealing GHc45 worth of plantain from two separate farms at Mesa, near Akim Akyease. He was charged with unlawful entry and stealing and he would reappear on December 3. Owusu has another case before the same court. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kwojo Ahenkorah told the court, presided over by Mr. Frank Annor, that the accused and the two complainants; Mr. Kwame Owusu and Madam Ama Buronya, both farmers, lived at Akim Akyease. The prosecution said the complainants, who shared a common farm boundary at Mesa, for a while experienced frequent theft of their foodstuff. However, on November 18, he said, at about midday, one Mr. Kwesi Amakye, also a farmer in that area, spotted the accused carrying a loaded sack, and consequently, confronted him. Chief Insp. Ahenkorah said Mr. Amakye, found out that the sack was full of plantain and upon interrogation, Owusu confessed to the crime. The case was subsequently reported to the Akyim Akyease Police.
