Ofori Attas Family Demands Full Investigation Into Death

The family of Mr. Ofori Atta who died at the Police Hospital on Tuesday 17th November 2009 whilst in the custody of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command are demanding full scale investigation into the cause of Ofori Attas death. Faustina Ayeti,, a niece of the late Ofori Atta told Peace FM in an interview that his uncle (Mr. Ofori Atta) who is about 35 years and married with children, was a carpenter in Gomoa Nyanyanor in the Central Region. She said Mr. Ofori Atta sold a plot of land to a gentleman whose name she could not immediately mention through one Atta Kwah who acted as the middleman for the transaction and also lives at Gomoa Nyanyanor. Faustina Ayeti said Atta Kwah and the gentleman who bought the land later told Mr. Ofori Atta that they did not like the plot anymore and therefore demanded refund of the money they had paid for the plot. Even though Ofori Atta started refunding the money by installment, Faustina Ayeti said Ata Kwah and the gentleman who bought the plot reported the case to the greater Accra regional police who arrested Mr. Ofori Atta on Saturday November 14, 2009 and was kept in cell until his death on Tuesday, 17th November 2009 at the Police Hospital in Accra. When Peace FM contacted Inspector Sebastian Oware, Station officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police, he confirmed that Mr. Ofori Atta was kept in cells and was sent to the police Hospital for treatment when he fell sick but died on Tuesday, 17th November 2009. A source at the Greater Accra regional CID also told Peace FM that the cause of Ofori Attas death is being investigated.
