Power Tariffs To Drop Soon-Energy Minister

Plans are far advanced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to reduce electricity tariffs to lessen the plight of consumers.

Already, the Ministry of Energy is working behind the scenes to ensure the reduction of tariffs paid by consumers.

The move forms part of new interventions by the NPP administration geared towards helping to bring relief to the citizenry.

The Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, made the disclosure at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast on Saturday during the National Delegates Conference in Cape Coast.

“We are seriously working to reduce the power tariffs in the country so that the burden on power users would be lessened,” he declared.

“During the campaign period, we promised you that if you vote for the NPP, we shall stop the power cuts also known as ‘Dumsor”.

“Within some few months in political office, we have fulfilled our promise by stopping the ‘dumsor’, which destroyed businesses.

“I am also telling you today that we shall surely reduce power tariffs in the country very soon and it shall indeed come to pass.”

He disclosed this while addressing NPP delegates during a mammoth rally to climax the party’s National Delegates Conference in Cape Coast on Saturday.

In attendance were President Akufo-Addo, Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, former President John Kufuor, Freddie Blay and other party stalwarts.

He noted that the current NPP administration would address all the mishaps in the energy sector so that power cuts would be history.

“We are working and our target is to ensure that by the close of 2017, there will be stability in the power supply of the country.”

The Energy Minister stated that the NPP boasts of knowledgeable people to develop the country.
