Western Region NYEP restructures

The Western Regional National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) is being re-structured to make it more efficient and effective, Mr Joseph Nelson, the Regional Coordinator of the Programme, has said. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency he said the restructuring was taking place mainly at the district level with the appointment of new district coordinators. Mr Nelson said re-registration of beneficiaries of the programme was also going on to ascertain their actual number because some of them had left the programme without informing their coordinators and were being paid. He said some beneficiaries were not happy about the re-registration exercise and they are reluctant to re-register because they see it as a means of retrenching them. "This is not the case. The re-registration is a genuine exercise aimed at weeding out uncommitted ones who do not go to work." Mr Nelson said 5,000 people are estimated to be benefiting from the programme in the region and called on beneficiaries who are still interested in the programme to re-register. He said as part of improving the programme two new modules would be introduced and these are the Youth and Security Services module, Youth in ICT and Mobile Phone Repair module.
