Egyptian Premier League Resumes

The Egyptian Premier League returned to action yesterday after a month-long break to allow national coach Hassan Shehata to prepare for the 2010 World Cup matches against Algeria. League leaders Al Ahly were to travel to second-place Petrojet, who trail the Cairo giants by three points but will go top with a victory. The action will continue today when strugglers Zamalek, currently in a lowly seventh spot in the table, host Ghazl El Mehalla, who occupy the third relegation zone position and are in desperate need of points even this early in the season. ENPPI, slow starters and losers of their last two Premier League matches, are at home to El Masri, who are also wading in mid-table mediocrity. Harras Hodoud travel to Arab Contractors, while Mansoura need to the points as they host bottom club Asyut Petroleum, who have yet to record a win this season. Al Ahly are top with 20 points from eight matches, Petrojet are second with 17 while Al Gaish are third with 13 points from similar number of games. Asyut Petroleum are at the bottom with five points.
