A member of the current Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Allotey Jacobs, has asked members of the erstwhile NPP government to seek forgiveness from the Catholic Pope, for their mishandling of the country�s energy sector, and especially how they drained the coffers of the Volta River Authority (VRA).
Speaking on Peace FM�s morning show dubbed �Kokrokoo,� Mr. Jacobs, who is also the Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, attributed the current intermittent power outages that has hit the country to the NPP's recklessness and inefficiency during their tenure in office, adding that the situation has crippled the operations of VRA and the whole energy sector.
"They (NPP) were reckless, they avoided our energy supply, now VRA has collapsed and is almost dead, we need to resuscitate VRA...People who were given the responsibility to manage our energy sector by the previous Government neglected it, yet whenever there is irregular power supply, they blame it on President Mills and sarcastically ask him to fix it, knowing very well that they caused it...They have to go to the Pope for forgiveness, for leaving us in such a sorry state,� he added.
Mr. Jacobs, who is a also gunning for the National Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, was of the strong view that incorporating the operations of the ECG (Corporation) to a limited liability company largely accounts for the problems of the ECG.
"The major problem of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) started when it was changed from a corporation to a limited liability company...Since then, people have taken advantage of that to sell lands meant for building substations to individuals and corporate institutions, thus milking the country of some billions of cedis," he stated.
