Boards must coordinate with school heads

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, has urged the board of governors of senior high schools (SHS) to collaborate with school heads to raise academic performance. He said they should focus on helping to give policy direction and ensure that the administrative authority of the headmasters was not breached. Mr Onyinah was inaugurating the reconstituted 13-member Board of the Nyinahin Catholic SHS in the Atwima-Mponua District. Mr Enoch B. Asare, Head of Water Division of the Water Resources Commission, is the Chairman. Mr Onyinah encouraged them to give priority to the maintenance of discipline in the schools and tackle problems that could undermine effective academic work with urgency. He said their decisions must always be influenced by the general good of the school and not by personal gains. Mr Onyinah said although government had the ultimate responsibility to ensure that the right of every child to quality education was fulfilled, education was a shared responsibility and all must do their bit to achieve quality. Mr Kwasi Boateng Akyeampong, Headmaster of the School, said the traditional authorities had released 60.2 hectares of land for the school's re-location. He said the District Assembly was also constructing a two-storey dormitory block for the school to help address the student accommodation problem.
