KMA boss inspects development projects

Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), on Wednesday inspected development projects in the metropolis to acquaint himself with progress of work. These included the GH�5,714,383.62 World Bank-Ghana Government jointly-funded Aboabo Storm Drainage Improvement Works, under the second Urban Environmental Sanitation Project, and the Community Infrastructure Upgrading Project at Old-Tafo and Ayigya. Mr Sarpong told journalists that he was impressed by the performance of contractors executing the projects, and asked them to ensure that work was completed on schedule. The MCE said that he would ensure that Kumasi was given a major face-lift and initiate measures to improve the living conditions of the people. The storm drainage works involved construction of a 2.5 kilometre stretch of concrete-lined drainage with culverts. Mr Zao Young, Project Manager of China Zhong-Hao Limited, the Chinese company executing the Project, gave the assurance that work, which commenced in November last year, would be completed on schedule. The Old-Tafo and Ayigya Project which was awarded to Messres Jasong and Prefos Limited, entailed rehabilitation of roads, expansion of water supply, environmental health and sanitation works and street lighting. Mr Kwabena Atuahene of ARP Consult, Project Consultant, said government and the World Bank were providing funding for that project. He said that about 80 per cent of work had been done and expressed hope that the remaining task would be completed within the stipulated time.
