Col. Nibo: GAF Investigations To Begin In Bawku Stripping

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces, has confirmed that the Armed Forces has in its possession a copy of the Video footage about the two persons who were stripped naked by military personnel in Bawku, and was going to do a full scale investigations into the issue. Regrettable as the incident was, Colonel Nibo stopped short of laying blame at the doorstep of the military men, saying he was not in a position to condemn their action. We have watched the video clip, it is an unfortunate incident that took place. I believe this is an isolated case that should not be blown out of proportion. It is unfortunate that the incident happened but sometimes desperate measures must be brought to bear on desperate situations... We should also not over blow the situation in such a way that it affect the moral of the soldiers who are operating in that area, he stated. Speaking in an interview on Metro TV News Night, Col. Nibo said there was a need for the people of Bawku to liaise with the security to bring total peace in the area instead of condemning their action. It is important the people in Bawku area cooperate with security forces so that both or all parties involved will be able to resolve the issue that is at stake, he added. He expressed disquiet that no-one seems interested in the quantity of ammunition and live bullets seized from the two Bawku residents. Unfortunately, no-one is also talking about the ammunition that the people were carrying, the concentration has shifted to the stripping, which is unfortunate. The people who were carrying the 34 rounds of ammunitions, what were they going to use it for?... there is a prohibition of carrying arms and ammunition in the area, so let us look at both sides of the situation and try to see how best the situation can be resolved between the security forces as well as the people of Bawku, he added. But he says once the suspects are arrested they are to be handed over to the police for further investigations. He further stated that, nobody condones the stripping of the suspects.
