Sabotage Against Mr Mensah: Dr Duffuor Involved?

As the clock ticks to the final decision point on who occupies the seat of managing Director of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), there are reports that some key personalities are trying to subvert the process to serve other purposes than the interest of Ghanaians. Reports reaching The Daily Democrat indicate that the imminent selection of Mr. John Kofi Mensah, current Managing Director of Unibank, is not going down well with some people at the helm of affairs, therefore they are trying to influence President John Evans Atta Mills decision. Sources close to the Osu Castle, the seat of government, have disclosed that owner of Unibank and current Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, is one of the people kicking against the appointment. The reports have it that the manipulations have led to the emergence of two camps, one in favour and the other against his appointment. Dr. Duffuors disagreement with his appointment stems from the benefits he derives from Mr. Mensahs excellent stewardship at Unibank, rather than blood between the two. He (Mr Mensah) is said to have contributed tremendously to the growth of Unibank and his departure is apparently worrying Dr. Duffuor, who is using his influence to change events. He is alleged to have even made comments to the effect that he might resign as Minister if Mr. Mensah is picked; however, this cannot be confirmed. Mr. Mensah distinguished himself during an interview by a team of banking luminaries, who were convinced by his control over affairs in the sector. Meanwhile, supporters and activists of the NDC in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency and the chiefs and people of the Ajumako and Enyan Denkyira Traditional Areas, where Mr. Kofi Mensah hails from, have registered their protest over the workings against their own. The chiefs of the Ajumako area, who believe that, their son is more qualified for the job, are not happy that, people will use their positions to bulldoze their way through the corridors of power in an attempt to ditch and scuttle the bid of a hardworking Ghanaian. They have therefore called on President Mills and the Minister of Finance to be fair in giving the appointment to the deserving personality based on merit and not consideration. They say they are not happy with practice of always denying competent people who are not in some peoples good books or who others do not want to see in certain positions.
