Pay Employees Realistic Salaries – Palmer-Buckle

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Gabriel Palmer-Buckle has urged employers to pay employees realistic salaries to enable them live decant lives.

He lamented that while management staff take home “fat salaries, enjoy V8 vehicles, clothing, rent, dog, garden boy and servant allowances,” junior staff were compelled to use their meager salaries to pay such bills thus further impoverishing them.

Most Reverend Palmer-Buckle said this on Sunday at the confirmation ceremony of 39 parishioners of the St. James Catholic Church at Osu in Accra.

According to the Archbishop, the focus of employers should be how to enable them to contribute towards increasing productivity.

“Employers need to be generous and treat their workers with respect and decorum,” and asked the congregation how many of them would take their maids or servant to first class hospitals when they are sick, the only thing you will first think of about is the amount involved forgetting that, “that servant has devoted all his or her time to your service.”

The Archbishop charged people in responsible positions to correct the injustices in the system and assist the poor to live comfortable lives.

“Because on the day of reckoning, every individual would be measured by the role they play in making the poor happy,” he said.
