Vice President Donates Items Towards Eid-Ul-Adha

The government yesterday presented food items to some Muslim missions in Accra ahead of the celebration of the EId-ul-Adha Festival today. The office of the Chief Imam, received one cow, 10 rams, 50 bags of rice and 10 bags of sugar. The Ahamadiya Mission, Council of Muslim Chiefs, Shia Ahlul Bait (AS) Centre, the Alsuna Wal Jamal Mission each received five rams, 25 bags of rice and five bags of suga Presenting the items on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills, Vice-President John Mahama underscored the importance of the EId-ul-Adha festival, which according to him commemorates Abraham�s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael when directed by God as a sign of obedience. Receiving the items, the deputy Amir of the Ahamadiya mission, Maulvi Mohammed Yusuf Yawson thanked the government for the gesture and assured the Vice-President that the item will be given to the poor and vulnerable who need them most for the celebration of the festival. Chief Baba Issah, Public Relations Officer of the Council of Muslim Chiefs, receiving the items thanked Vice-President Mahama for the donation and commended the government for the excellent manner it assisted the Hajj Committee to successfully organise this year�s Hajj, describing it as the best so far. Sheik Suleman Bandago, a representative of the chief Imam of the Shia Ahlul Bait (AS) Centre, and Mallam Hussein, representative of the spiritual leader of the Alsuna Wal Jamal Mission received the items on behalf of their respective missions, and prayed to God to lead the government. Dr. Sheik Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the national Chief Imam, received the items on behalf of the Muslim community and thanked the government for the kind gesture. He prayed for President Mills and his government.
