Technicians Rush To Fix Faulty Lights

For months, the Upper East Regional capital could not boast of a functioning traffic light and as a result, Police Officers had to rotate in directing traffic flow at some busy junctions in the municipality.

Some areas in the municipality, as well as streets, have been dark for months due to the non-functioning of many street lights.

Suddenly, technicians have been assigned to work on these street lights and traffic lights ahead of President Akufo-Addo’s two-day visit to the Upper East Region.

Many cases of armed robbery and motor bike snatching had occurred in these dark areas due to the non-functioning of the lights, yet calls to get the lights working again, never had the desired attention.

Some residents who spoke with DAILY GUIDE in separate interviews, described the action of the managers of the municipality as a sign of disrespect to the inhabitants of the municipality.

“I don’t mean to say the President is not important; what I mean is, the President has a strong security around him and even in dark areas no one can attack him. We the residents need the street lights the more. They refused to listen to our cry and because the President is coming, they are working on the lights. This is a bad habit and must stop,” one interviewee said.

This behaviour has existed even during the tenures of past governments.

From Wednesday, October 4, 2017, President Akufo-Addo will be paying a two-day visit to the Upper East Region and will be inspecting the progress of some on-going projects in the region, including the Bolgatanga-Nangodi-Bawku-Kulungugu road and the Tamne multi-purpose dam in the Garu-Tempane District.

He will be addressing chiefs in the region and visit the regional hospital in Bolgatanga to inspect the progress of on-going expansion and re-arrangement of various departments and units of the region’s biggest referral health facility.

DAILY GUIDE has learn that, the Youth of Bongo will also take advantage of the President’s visit to the Vea dam site, to make an appeal to the President to ensure that, the people of the Bongo District, also benefit from the Vea dam as their source of drinking water.
