Government to build fishing harbour at Keta

The government will build a fishing harbour at Keta to enhance the fishing industry, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Aku Attivor, has said. She was speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Mount Sinai Congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church at Akosombo on Sunday. She re-assured the congregation of the commitment of government to make traveling on the Volta River safe and said by the last quarter of next year, work to remove tree stumps from the Volta Lake would start and would lead to the creation of sawmills along the Volta Lake to crate employment for the youth. Mrs Attivor called on Ghanaians to patronize the Aveyime rice to give hope to farmers and said the country could not continue to use its scarce foreign exchange to import rice that could be grown locally. She appealed to the Church to be concerned not only of the spiritual needs of its members but also their material and economic well being Mrs Attivor said the government identified religious denominations as major development partners in its efforts to fulfill its promise of promoting a better Ghana and expressed the appreciation of government to the EP Church for its numerous contribution towards education and health delivery in the country. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the National Democratic Congress won the last election by the Grace of God and expressed the hope that God would also see the government through the various challenges facing the country. He said decisions that had been taken by the government so far were those that could lead the country to progress. Mr Ampofo called on all stakeholders to play the role expected of them to ensure an accident free Christmas and urged passengers to muster courage to call on speeding drivers to reduce their speed and appealed to owners of commercial vehicle to desist from putting pressure on drivers of their vehicles to increase their daily sales. In a sermon Rev. S. A. Amoako, the guest preacher, called on Christians to seek wisdom and behave like true followers of Christ and not as pretenders since that would make them loose the Grace of God and the salvation that all Christians are working for. The host pastor, Rev. T. T. Y. Dumevi, reminded politicians that positions of authority were not permanent but were bound to change and it was through these changes that society could achieve new things and new developments.
