Nkoranza South gets NADMO branch

The Nkoranza South District Disaster Management Committee, formed to help combat disasters in the communities, has been inaugurated with a call on the people to show concern for the environment and guard against its destruction. Mr. Alfred Atta-Yeboah, Principal Disaster Control Officer at Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation, (NADMO) who made the call advised members to join hands and initiate plans that would prevent disasters. He mentioned potential major disasters as bushfires, rainstorm, army worm infestation, erosion and pollution of river bodies and urged the committee to work hard in addressing such problems. Mr. Atta-Yeboah advised the people to be wary of how they handle naked fires and urged the assembly members and traditional authorities to organise the people to plant tree seedlings to serve as wind breaks against rainstorms. He commended the chiefs and people of Boabeng-Fiema for their efforts in managing the environment against bushfires and protecting the monkey sanctuary in the area. Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, advised the committee members to be proactive and to plan against recurrence of disasters. He appealed to assembly members, unit committees, religious bodies and traditional authorities to educate the people about the causes and effects of disasters so they would help prevent them. Mr. Evans Osei-Worae, Nkoranza South District NADMO Coordinator, commended members of the committee for offering to serve in disaster management. The 13-member committee is made up of representatives of the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Security Agencies, Forestry Department, the Department of Social Welfare, National Commission for Civic Education and NADMO.
