Government has reiterated its intention to execute the Marine Drive Project along the coast from the Christianborg Castle in Osu to the Arts Centre in Accra.

The Minister of Finance, Honorable Ken Ofori Atta announced this in Parliament when he read the 2018 budget.

According to him, plans are far advanced and work has actually commenced on the project and would transform the entire coastline from Osu to Accra into a tourism and business enclave. The Marine Drive project is one of the initiatives the NPP government is pursuing in the tourism and creative arts space.

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour has assured members of the Union and other musicians of efforts being made by his administration to ensure that the work of the Union is not affected unduly as a result of the relocation.

He indicated that as a result of disruptions to the rehearsal plans of members and other musicians, MUSIGA is working out an arrangement with NAFTI so that members can make use of the MUSIGA Academy facilities at NAFTI for rehearsals. As part of the establishment of the MUSIGA Academy, MUSIGA has established a mini-studio for instruction and rehearsals at NAFTI.

President Obour who recently attended the International Federation of Musicians (FIM) Conference on Gender in Dar-es-Salam, Tanzania says MUSIGA is poised to roll out some initiatives for the benefit of its members in the coming year including the Play More Gh campaign aimed at achieving more local content on our air waves.

In a related development, the leadership of the Union in collaboration with other creative sector leaders have met the deputy Minister of Communication, Hon Nenyi George Andah to contribute to the draft broadcasting bill which is under preparation. Some of the inputs the creative arts leaders made include 100% Ghanaian content on our radio and television during Prime time.
