Mechanic Jailed 6 Months For Possessing Drugs

An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced one Wisdom Agidem, a Mechanic to six months imprisonment for possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

Wisdom pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted accordingly.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh said the court in sentencing Wisdom took into consideration the five months he had already spent in custody, his plea of guilty without wasting the court’s time and his show of remorse.

He therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment with a fine of 400 penalty units, or in default serve an additional 3 years.

The court later ordered the CID and the court registrar to destroy the exhibits within three months.

Earlier the prosecution Superintendent Kweku Bempah told the court that on June 22, at about 0405 hours, the Adenta District Police Command undertook a swoop around Adenta and arrested some suspected criminals and drug peddlers.

He said during the exercise Wisdom was arrested in a kiosk behind West African Secondary School, and a search conducted in the kiosk revealed 77 wraps of whitish substance suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The prosecution said the convict claimed ownership of the substance and said that he bought same from one Rita at Kinbu but does not know her house.

The exhibits were sent to the Police Forensic laboratory for examination and it tested positive with a net weight of 10.2 grammes.
