'Reckless' Amaliba Is a Disgrace And a Threat To The Nation – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has described the “Ghana will burn” comment made by Private Legal Practitioner and Member of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Abraham Amaliba as “reckless” and “nonsensical”.

According to him, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba is a disgrace to his profession and must face the uppermost leadership of his party for his “useless” utterances.

“Amaliba is not bigger than Ghana and his useless talks must be condemned. He must face the law for his treason comment to avoid future occurrence. If this comment had come from Kennedy Agyapong or me, people will call for our arrest,” he said.

Mr Amaliba has threatened that the peace that the country has enjoyed will be terribly disturbed if the Akufo-Addo-led government does not stop using the system to harass the EC Boss, Madam Charlotte Osei by an attempt of impeachment.

The embattled EC Chairperson is expected to answer for six allegations out of the 27 accusations leveled against her by her two deputies Amadu Sulley (in charge of Operations), and Georgina Amankwa (in charge of Corporate Services).

This follows her appearing before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Monday, December 11, after the President forwarded a petition by Forson Ampofoh and Godsway Dzado, both drivers at the EC office for her impeachment in relation to alleged corruption and mismanagement.

The two deputies are to also answer for their alleged roles in the disappearance of some GHc480,000 from the EC’s Endowment Fund, among other allegations.

Mrs Charlotte Osei, has said she has not been officially served with the petition and has a result has written to the Judicial Service to provide her with reasons why she has been asked to appear before the committee even though she has not officially received a copy of the petition to be privy to the accusations leveled against her.

Speaking on this matter in an interview with Accra FM on Tuesday December 12, Mr Amaliba said “These are the worrying signals. How can you drag somebody to your committee without giving the person a copy of the document and everybody is keeping quiet?”

“ . . What has the woman done? She has declared election results in your favour and so what again do they want from her that they are using the process to harass her?

“Where are the CDDs? Where are the Occupy Ghanas? If it were to be the NDC government all these people would be speaking by now. Where is Emile Short? Where is Professor Martey? This country will burn and we will see where all of us will be and so they should continue doing it.”

Chairman Wontumi as affectionately called in politics on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’ finds Amaliba’s comment as ‘evil’ and “a plot to disturb the peace of the nation”.

He told host Akwasi Aboagye that “Amaliba is not thinking and behaving like a lawyer but we [NPP] will force him to think, he is not a thinker.”
