Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah stormed Ho, the Volta Regional Capital, last week with his campaign trail to witness the regional youth and women�s organisers� elections as part of measures in fulfilling his desire of becoming a vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Though Dr. Spio-Garbrah said he was not there to campaign, his supporters were seen all over distributing posters whiles he had one-on-one discussions with party members both in and out of the Woezor Hotel conference hall where the programme took place. He said there is an increasing deficiency in the party, especially at the national level and that it was as a result of some of these lapses that he is seeking their mandate to become a vice chairman so he could be at the party office to correct them. He appealed to party members to be united and focus on retaining power in 2012 and even after President Mills has ended his first term in office. He commended the Volta regional branch of the party for organizing a peaceful congress. Dr. Spio-Garbrah appealed to those who have won the various positions to see it as an opportunity to give out their best towards the building of the party whiles he entreated those who lost to cooperate with the winners to make the party stronger. Maxwell Owusu, the incumbent regional youth organiser, polled 48 votes as against 11 each by Courage Danku, immediate past deputy youth organiser and special side to the Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenorwode, and Egypt Kwabla Kudoto, a media practitioner and special side to deputy Minister for Transportation, Dzifa Attivor. Mercy Yawa Kuada stood unopposed as the regional women�s organiser whiles Hajia Hawa Hamidu and Agnes Tia polled 39 and 30 votes respectively to become deputy women�s Organisers.Kofi Adams, deputy youth yrganiser and special side to ex-President Jerry John Rawlings, appealed to party members in the region to ensure that they take the Nkwanta North Parliamentary seat from the NPP during the next general elections. Ludwig Hlodze, a Presidential staffer, appealed to party critics of President Mills to do that with decorum since some of their utterances were not doing the Presidency any good. Daily Guide has gathered that the contest for the position for the regional chairman and the remaining positions will take place at Hohoe on December 19, 2009, while the national youth and women�s conferences are scheduled to take place at Sunyani and Winneba respectively from 8th to 9th January.
