BNI Chases After Top NDC MP?

The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu is reportedly being pursued by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to answer questions over alleged hi-jacking of some relief items meant for flood victims in his constituency. Following a heavy down pour which displaced about 800 people and destroyed personal belongings in the area in June, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), according to a report in the Chronicle Newspaper, dispatched 100 bags of rice, students mattresses, wellington boots, and other materials to the district for distribution to the victims. The Assembly Member for Kpong-Parkson Evans Nash is alleging that out of the items, Hon. Nyaunu received 20 bags of rice, two bales of second hand clothing, a bale of blankets and ten pair of wellington boots as protocol items. Further checks, according to the Assembly member revealed that the so-called protocol items were given to the MP to share among the affected people as a sign of sympathy and care but he kept the items to himself, thereby defeating the original motive. But the outspoken NDC MP has categorically denied the allegations saying they may be a ploy by members of his party to silence him. The District Chief Executive of Lower Manya Krobo Isaac Agbo Tetteh however, says members of the constituency want to know where the relief items are, as the items have not been accounted for by the Member of Parliament. The truth which people want to know is where have these consignments of the relief items gone tomembers of the house want to know? He said. Mr. Teye Nyaunu is one of a number of NDC members who have criticized President Mills recently. The MP on Tuesday, Dec 8, registered his displeasure about the presidents alleged neglect of MPs. Hon. Teye Nyaunu told Citi News that he has nothing against anybody. He says his criticisms are positive ones which will inure to the benefit of the NDC. Meanwhile, some anti-Nyaunu NDC Activists in the Lower Manya Constituency have alleged that their MP, organized the partys Constituency and regional executives to disrupt a scheduled press conference on Wednesday morning. Hon Nyaunu has been very critical of his own party and the Presidency accusing them of neglecting the foot soldiers in favour of strangers. The intended press conference was meant to hit at the MP for his numerous public criticisms of the Mills administration. The Vice Chairman of the NDC in the Lower Manya Constituency, Mark Nyamedi, however denies that Mr Nyaunu instigated the disruption of the press conference. He admitted that the executives indeed impressed upon the activists to call off the press conference since the Partys officials were not informed of it. What has Michael Teye Nyaunu done for them to organize a press conference against him?...We thought it wise to do what we did(call of the press conference) and Michael Teye Nyaunu has no hand in it, He said.
