Robbers’ own phone betrays them by causing their arrest

Two alleged armed robbers who robbed a motorbike rider of his bike at gunpoint have been remanded into police custody after the mobile phone left at the scene by one of them led to their arrest.

Joseph Ahorde and Sulley Karim pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob and robbery, and the court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded them to reappear on January 12, according to the GNA.

Narrating the facts to the court, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu said the complainant is Joseph Zormelo, a mechanic and motor rider who lives at Obeyeyie, whiles the accused, Ahorde and Karim reside at Ablorman.

The prosecution said Joseph Ahorde asked the complainant to take him to Ablorman near Amasaman on December 24 last year.

Chief Inspector Adu said on reaching a section of the road, Ahorde asked the complainant to stop, and shortly after doing so, Sulley Karim emerged from a nearby bush with a pump action gun and ordered the complainant to hand over the motorbike.

He said the two accused then snatched the bike and rode off.

The complainant raised alarm and some people came out and luckily found a mobile phone left behind by Joseph Ahorde which had his pictures on it.

With the help of the phone, police tracked Ahorde who then led them to Karim’s house where the stole motorbike and the very gun used in the robbery were found.
