Minister Begs ECG To End Power Cuts

Minister of Energy Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei has called on employees of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure that this year�s yuletide is without power outages. He was of the view that employees can step up their efforts to ensure that illegalities such as wrong tapping of power, wrong reading of electric meters and other malfeasance are a thing of the past. Dr. Oteng Adjei who was speaking during the company�s 7th annual national best employee awards ceremony held in Accra, expressed the hope that ECG workers will be able to live up to expectation. He again called on management of the company, to widen the scope of their awards to cover women, drivers and cleaners in the company, so as to motivate all their workers to push the organization forward. Awards were given to best employees in all the regional branches of the company, with the overall national award going to Mr. Isaac Ehoma Yankey. He went home with a cash prize of GH�15,000, a medium size deep freezer and a plaque, the 1st runner-up award went to Mohammed Abdul who received GH�10,000, a freezer and a plaque, whiles the 2nd runner-up award went to Isaac Nketia Godwill who had GH�700 a freezer and a plaque. Mr. Cephas Gakpo Managing Director of ECG for his part noted that the awards were instituted with the aim of rewarding employees who have demonstrated enormous talents, commitment and dedication to duty. He indicated that the awards are based on merit, adding that, it was monitored and assessed purely on performance basis. Mohammed Abdul on behalf of his colleague award winners said the award is for all the employees of the company, since without their cooperation they can�t achieve anything.
