John Mensah Sarpong, the immediate past President of the Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI), has disclosed that certain organizations in Europe who have developed an interest in Ghanaian music have declared their readiness to support the industry.
John Mensah Sarpong, who is currently the Chairman of newly formed National Society of Ghana Music Producers (NASGAMP), disclosed to BEATWAVES that the main aim of the association is to assist and offer opportunities for Ghanaian musicians to collaborate with their counterparts in Europe on songs and the online marketing of Ghanaian HYPERLINK "http://www.ghanamusic.com/2007/10/17/ghanaian-musicians-sign-mou-to-establish-bank/" \t "_top"music to the outside world.
He said this after a five-day workshop on management of copyright and related rights in the global economy held in Accra.He noted that since most Ghanaians do not understand copyright issues, NASGAMP has decided to organize seminars and workshops to educate and sensitize Ghanaians in a more sustainable manner to enable them appreciate the effects of piracy and solicit their support to reduce the canker.
He disclosed that NASGAMP is currently in consultation with certain organizations in Ghana and Europe to help tackle the increasing rate of piracy in the music industry.
He told BEATWAVES that the Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE) is ready to assist Ghana�s music industry to embark on a sustainable anti-piracy exercise.
He is of the view that with support from international organizations against piracy in the country, both musicians and stakeholders can operate peacefully.
