GETFUND project in Bantama lies idle for one year

A six-classroom unit project sponsored by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, for Bantama M/A Primary/Junior High School in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Municipality a year ago, is lying idle because it has not been inaugurated. Mr. Emmanuel Awudi, the Head teacher who disclosed this at the weekend said the school with a population of more than 800 pupils is compelled to run the shift system due to lack of infrastructure. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency he said about a month ago the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Jophus Samuel Annan donated 120 dual desks to furnish the facility. He claimed that when he received the furniture he decided to use the unit but the Municipal Assembly restrained him with the reason that the building had not been officially handed over to the school. Mr. Awudi has therefore appealed to the Municipal Education Office to expedite action on the inauguration of the building. Dr. Annan told the GNA he was moved by the plight of the school to donate the furniture but explained that as a Deputy Minister of Education, he must help fulfil government's policy to abolish the shift system. He asked the people not play politics with the education of the children to undermine their future progress.
