Time-Table Still On Course . . . Unresolved Issues Can’t Stampede Process - John Boadu

Acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has stated that no amount of court injunctions placed on few polling station's elections can stampede the process and cause the time-table set out for the delegates’ conference to change.

According to him, inasmuch as it is not fair to eliminate people from a contest and deny others the right to vote, the aggrieved persons can petition the headquarters to seek redress, rather than going to court to seek injunction on the entire elctions when only one polling station is at fault.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the NPP Acting Chief Scribe mentioned that “those who didn’t exhaust the process but took a decision to delay the primaries will not change the time-table for us; we are not going back on our time-table”.

“We will continue to have discussions with the courts because one affected polling station in a constituency of about 120 polling stations cannot stampede the entire process in the constituency with court injunction; I don’t think it is allowed. But the court does not know this”, John Boadu emphasized.

He added that so far, close to 30,000 polling stations have had successful primaries; reiterating that just a handful are having issues, and so it is disheartening to see one case out of the majority taking centre stage.

So far, close to 30,000 polling stations, you can just mention 20 out of 30,000 and so when one case rises out of the 30,000 polling stations, it clouds the majority which are successful and make it look as if everything has gone wrong with the primaries. For instance, it was wrong for the loser to burn party properties at Mampong after losing the primaries”.

He therefore hinted that the time-table set out for the delegates’ conference will be adhered to because the party has given enough time to constituency and regional executives to resolve such issues which may arise in the primaries.

I must also add that one-third of delegates to conference form column to do a delegates conference. For instance, in a constituency of about 120 polling stations, if 115 to 118 polling stations have had successful primaries, we will not wait for the two unresolved polling stations if the issue stretches to the time-table of the constituency elections. This will be applicable at the regional and the national levels as well”, he added.
